How to Set Up Custom Wellplate in Agilent High Performance Autosampler and Multisampler via Agilent OpenLab Software

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent High Performance (Well-Plate) Autosampler G1368A, G1377A, G1367A/B/C/D/E, G4226A, G5667A, Agilent Multisampler G7167A/B, G5668A, G7137A, G4767A, Agilent OpenLab CDS 2.x, Agilent OpenLab Chemstation C.01.xx.

Issue

This article outlines the procedure on how to set up custom wellplates in Agilent High Performance Autosampler or Multisampler via Agilent OpenLab software.

Steps to Follow

Agilent Chromatography Software contains a list of all available wellplate types, including standard manufactured plates and custom wellplate types. If the wellplate type you want to use is not included in the list, you can add it using the Define and Edit Wellplates dialog box to edit an existing wellplate definition or set up a new one.

  1. Open the OpenLab Control Panel, then click the Instruments tab, and select the instrument you want to configure.
If using OpenLab ChemStation C.01.xx, go to step 3
  2. If using OpenLab CDS 2.x, click Close Connection.
  3. Click Configure Instrument.
  4. In the Configured modules section, double click the sampler you want to configure . (Figure 1)

  5. Scroll down and click:
    • Define Wellplates for High Performance Autosampler, or
    • Define Sample Containers for Multisampler.
  6. In the next screen, click Add to set up a new custom wellplate or select an existing custom wellplate and click Edit. (Figure 2)
For more details, see Define and Edit Wellplates.

  7. Enter custom plate dimension parameters into sample container table and give it a new name (Figure 3).
For more details, see Wellplate dimensions.
    • You might need to use caliper to obtain the preceding parameters and document for later use.
    • If you obtain the wellplates from Agilent and need assistance, please contact the Agilent Local Support.

  8. Select Ok button until you are able to launch instrument.
  9. From the OpenLab Control Panel, launch the instrument.
  10. Right click the sampler, then click Assign Wellplate to ensure that the newly added wellplate is shown in the drop-down list.
Tray and Plate Configuration window looks different for these two types of samplers. See
