This Information Applies To: Agilent GC/MS MassHunter Acquisition Software Agilent 5975/5977 GC/MSD Issue Use the Early Maintenance Feedback (EMF) tool to track the GC/MSD's consumable resource and part use, and to configure alerts for when they need to be replaced or serviced. After certain maintenance activities, for example, replacing the foreline pump oil, it is necessary to reset the EMF counters. There are two methods to set or reset the EMF counters. How to Access Manual Tune in GC/MS MassHunter and MSD Productivity ChemStation

Answer

This Information Applies To: MassHunter acquisition software for GC/MS systems and MSD Productivity ChemStation for all Agilent GC/MS systems

Issue

Manual tuning lets you interactively set the MSD parameters, such as lens voltages and tuning masses, to values that meet the needs of your particular analysis. Using manual tuning you can often obtain greater sensitivity than you can with autotune.

Manual tuning allows you to ramp individual parameters and to specify the range and step size for the ramp. The results of the ramp are displayed visually with the optimum value for the parameter clearly marked on the plot.

Manual tune is also helpful for troubleshooting, e.g. leak check. You can acquire two types of data in manual tune: profile scans (plots the abundance and peak shape of the tune masses) and spectrum scans (scans plot response across the entire mass range).

Steps to Follow:

There are two ways to access to Manual Tune:

  • From Instrument Control View
  • From Tune and Vacuum Control View

From Instrument Control View

In the Instrument Control window, click Instrument > Edit Tune Parameters to display the Manual Tune dialog. (See Figure 1)

From Tune and Vacuum Control View

  1. In the Instrument Control window, click View > Tune and Vacuum Control. See Figure 2.
  2. In the Tune and Vacuum Control window, click Parameters > Manual Tune. See Figure 3.
