How To Resolve "Index Out of Bounds" Error on Agilent GC/MS MassHunter

Answer

This Information Applies To:  MassHunter GC/MS Acquisition Versions B.07.xx through version 10.x.

Issue

MassHunter sequences stopping without errors, but “index out of bounds” is displayed at the bottom left of the acquisition pane.

Background

During acquisition, the sequence stopped with no errors in the logbook, no communications errors, and no hardware errors. The software displays the error index out of bounds at the bottom of the acquisition screen.

The use of a network printer is typically the cause of this error. If the print buffer is full, it will not respond in time and MassHunter will report this message.

Steps to Follow

1. Set the default printer in MassHunter to a print to PDF option (e.g Microsoft Print to PDF).
2. Run the sequence/worklist again and check that the worklist now runs to completion and the required reports are printed to PDF.
3. Clear the print buffer of the network printer or otherwise troubleshoot the printer issue and then retest using this network printer in MassHunter.

Tip: Setting a Network printer as the default printer is not supported for MassHunter.
