This Information Applies To: 4200, 4150 and 2200 TapeStation Systems
Issue
The expiration date displayed in the Agilent TapeStation controller software is different to the one printed on the ScreenTape device.
Background
The expiration date printed on the ScreenTape device applies until the device is removed from its packaging. Once a ScreenTape device is removed from its protective plastic sleeve, it dries out quicker. As the ScreenTape device dries out, bubbles can form in the gel, which can hinder sample migration. Therefore, a new expiration date is required.
The expiration date shown in the software is the correct one. It supersedes what is printed on the ScreenTape device.
4200 and 4150 TapeStation
The 4200/4150 TapeStation controller software calculates a new expiration date 14 days from when a ScreenTape device is placed in the ScreenTape nest and scanned for the first time. The ScreenTape device does not have to be used for a new expiration date to be calculated, the TapeStation instrument must simply read the barcode.
2200 TapeStation
The 2200 TapeStation system is slightly different as it calculates a new expiration date 14 days from when the ScreenTape device is used in a run for the first time. If the ScreenTape device is only placed in the ScreenTape nest and scanned, a new expiration date won't be calculated as the ScreenTape device must be used in an experiment.
Resolution
Agilent does not guarantee the performance of expired ScreenTape devices or reagents and by default the controller software will not allow the use of expired ScreenTape devices. However, it is possible to enable the use of expired ScreenTape devices within the controller software.

2200 TapeStation
If an expired ScreenTape device is inserted, a pop-up will appear with the message 'ScreenTape has expired. Running expired ScreenTape and reagents is not supported.'

Caution: The ScreenTape device ID and information about its previous use is stored on the laptop. If a new laptop is connected to the TapeStation instrument, or the existing laptop is re-imaged, the device history will be lost, and any previously used ScreenTapes will be recognized as new.
|
Caution: If the date and time settings on the PC are incorrect, the ScreenTape device expiration date will be recorded incorrectly. If the date and time on the PC are changed between a ScreenTape devices first use subsequent uses, the device could be flagged as expired when it isn't.
