  • How to Bake Out an Agilent GC/MSD

This Information Applies To: Agilent 5975, and 5977 Series GC/MSD Issue After maintenance requiring venting of the GC/MSD such as a GC capillary column change, filament replacement or abrasive ion source cleaning there will be a decreasing chemical background in the MSD after re-establishing high vacuum. The decrease in chemical background can be accelerated to a stable chemical background by a bake out of the MSD analyzer. Steps to follow Caution : GC/MSD bake-out must not...

Setting MS Analyzer Temperatures on your GC/MSD using OpenLab CDS Software

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent Single Quadrupole GC/MSD Systems

Issue

Instructions to set the source and quadrupole temperatures on your GC/MSD using OpenLab CDS software.

Steps to Follow

Setpoints for the MSD ion source and mass filter (quadrupole) temperatures are stored in the current tune file. When a method is loaded, the setpoints in the tune file associated with that method are downloaded automatically to the instrument.

  1. In the Home tab, click Method.
  2. Click Manual Tune > Parameters and then request for tune control .
  3. Enter the Source temperature (°C) and Quad temperature (°C).
  4. Click the Download tune parameters to instrument icon to download these temperature setpoints to the MS and change the current control temperatures to these values.
  5. Click the Save the tune parameters icon to make these temperatures settings part of this tune file or click the Save tune parameters with new file name icon to create a tune file with these values.
  6. Run an Autotune if you want these new temperatures in an autotune file.
  7. Release tune control.
See Figure 1 for more details.
