Help setting up existing GC-MS for Drug Analysis EPA

If this is installed in compliance mode, you will need to remove the software and reinstall it. I have also included the workflow guide for MSD Chemstation Data Analysis.

Hi Ron, thank you for the workflow guide, it is a great help. I'm not sure if it is installed in compliance mode - I will have a look for the discs and go from there, cheers!

Hi Ron, cheers for that. I have made a note of that method flow, thanks, but it's looking like it may be a touch moot; I cannot find the discs anywhere. I have sent an email to our IT team to see if they have them, but otherwise I'm at a bit of a loss. 

Failing that, is there anything else I can do?

Things to remember.

1. Backup all data, methods, sequences and anything you do not want deleted. 

2. Write done all IP addresses and Quad polarity in MS config then delete instrument. 

3. Remove MSD Chemstation Data Analysis first in Add/Remove Programs.

4. Remove Mass Hunter Acquisition in Add/Remove Programs.

5. Rename the folder GCMS to GCMSOLD in C:\.

6. Reload Mass Hunter Acquisition, but do not configure instrument.

7. Reload MSD Chemstation Data Analysis. Then reconfigure instrument.

Now make sure you have no other sw loaded like Gerstel, CTC, Headspace and such.

I managed to find our discs, they were indeed with the IT team. I followed your steps, but for some reason when complete the drop-down box in config's workflow mode still only has 'Enhanced' as an option, no others. 

There were a few odd 'access denied' popups during the MassHunter Acquisition install though, copied below. Could these be the reason? As far as I know, the PCs aren't limited in any way.

In honesty, no, I just clicked the Windows Installer labelled MassHunter Install (pictured below). I saw your reply and went through your steps again, this time running setup.exe as admin, but I'm afraid I still come to the same issue. I managed to get the config for the original PC open before it crashes and took a screenshot, to compare to the new PC (also pictured below). 

I've had a chat with the IT manager, and he and I would like to phone up first thing tomorrow to try and figure out where we're going wrong.

Did you load MassHunter Acquisition first, then G1701FA and then configure the instrument. Also please send me a screen capture of MS Configuration when it first starts up.

Hi Ron, I did indeed load MassHunter first and then ChemStation, then configured the GC-MS. My IT manager and I also set up a fresh box with both installed in the same order, and that comes with the same issue with the same outcome, we only see "Enhanced".

Hi Ron, that's absolute brilliant, modifying the .ini file appears to have worked.

It hasn't resolved in in the drop-down GUI, but on the config it shows Drug Analysis, and MassHunter Acquisition is running the drug analysis happily.

I will double check the results after it runs overnight, but that seems to have cracked it, thank you so much!

Go ahead on configure the instrument as enhanced. Then in c:\gcms\msexe find the file msdchem.ini and make a backup copy of the file. Open original in Notepad. in the [PCS,1] section find the line that reads

Application=1

if you want drug mode make it

Application=5

If you want Envquant mode make it

Application=2

Save the file but do not do a save as. Start software and should be in correct mode. If you reconfigure the instrument you will have to modify the file again.

I have only seen this once, and if I remember correctly this is how I got around the issue.

As you configure more instruments. You will get [PCS,1], [PCS,2]. [PCS,3], and [PCS,4]. Each one has their own

application=   line..
