This Information Applies To: Agilent ICP-MS (7800/7850/7900/8900)
Issue
The oil should be replaced at least once every six months, or when the oil color is indicates it needs to be changed. The foreline pump should be checked monthly. This article explains how to replace the Foreline Pump Oil in the MS40+ or MS40-S

Steps to follow
Warning:

Caution:
|
If your foreline pump has a thin drain hose attached to the oil outlet (Figure 1; Item 1), you have the old style drain kit. This old style drain kit and software drain oil feature can only be used if you have MassHunter 4.6 patch 1 or earlier. Click here for instructions.
Tip: If you have MassHunter 4.6 patch 2 or later, there is no drain oil feature in the software. Therefore, you must upgrade the oil drain kit, G8400-67315 and the recommended tilt tray G8400-60315.
|
If your foreline pump has a check valve with cap attached to the oil outlet, (Figure 1; Item 2), you have the new style drain kit (p/n G8400-67315) and must rely on gravity drain to drain the oil. Click here for instructions.
Warning: DO NOT use the software "Drain Foreline Pump Oil" function present with MassHunter 4.6 Patch 1 and earlier with a check valve and oil drain kit (p/n: G8400-67315). Using this function will cause sudden drainage and risk of splashing oil. |

Warning:
|
Tip: If you do not have an oil tilt tray, raise the pump so that it is higher than the container being used to collect the oil, then place something beneath the back pump capable of withstanding its weight and will not tip over.

Caution: Make sure that the sampling cone is installed before proceeding. The foreline pump could be damaged during the oil drain process if the sampling cone is not installed.
