How to Power On Agilent ICP-MS Systems

This Information Applies To: Agilent ICP-MS systems (7700/7800/7850/7900/8800/8900)


Issue

Powering on Agilent ICP-MS Systems after maintenance, long-term shutdown, or for power cycling.


 

Steps to Follow

  1.  Confirm that the ICP-MS power plug is plugged in to the ICP-MS and to the wall.
  2. Press the main power breaker switch on the back of the ICP-MS to the ON (I) position (Figure 1 Item 2).

  3. Press the foreline pump breaker switch on the back of the ICP-MS to the up ON (I) position (Figure 1)
  4. Press and release the front power button (Figure 2). The button LED will be solid green.

  5. Wait for the instrument status LED to go from red, to out
  6. Power on the computer.
  7. Power on the autosampler. If using the SPS 4 autosampler, turn the switch on the back near the power cord to the ON (I) position.
  8. Power on the chiller or heat exchanger. For chiller, turn the breaker on the back to the ON (I) position. Then power the chiller or heat exchanger using the front power button/switch.
  9. Open the ICP-MS MassHunter Software
  10. Turn on the Foreline Pump (Vacuum on). If the option to turn on the vacuum is unavailable, it is likely the communication between the ICP-MS and computer did not automatically reconnect. Configure communication in MassHunter before continuing.

      
    Confirmation: When the ICP-MS reaches standby mode, powering on is complete.
