Agilent Fragment Analyzer or Femto Pulse: Run Aborted, Error Moving Syringe Plunger

Answer

This Information Applies To: 5200/5300/5400 Fragment Analyzer, Fragment Analyzer controller software, Femto Pulse, Femto Pulse controller software

Issue:

The Agilent Fragment Analyzer or Femto Pulse controller software shows the error message Run aborted, Error moving syringe plunger (see Figure 1):

Figure 1: Run aborted: Error moving syringe plunger

This error indicates that the syringe in the side compartment of the instrument is not moving up and down during a pumping step (see arrow in Figure 2).

Figure 2: Fragment Analyzer with syringe (see arrow)

Resolution:

This error message can appear due to an intermittent board issue. If this intermittent board issue is the root cause, a full power cycle as described here can resolve it. After the full power cycle, prime any line to test if the pumping works normally. If the syringe still does not move and you get the error message again, an onsite visit may be necessary.
