What MS database is most adequate for food contaminants analysis?

Good morning everyone,

We are planning on acquiring an MS database for food contaminants.

We have the NIST14 at the moment on our Agilent GC-MS but it needs to be updated.

It seems Wiley has several options and I was wondering which one would be the most complete or if there is the need to combine several.

Does a GC-MS database only focus on compounds that can be analyzed by GC only or does it include LC analytes as well?

As well, I have seen there is an Agilent specific NIST database. Does it have to be that version? What features does it have more than a generic version?

Thank you for the help.

Best regards,

Christophe

  • Hello  ,

I can address some of your questions.

As far as I know, any GC/MS database will only have compound information from GC/MS analysis. If there are any libraries or databases that contain both GC/MS and LC/MS information I suspect they would explicitly state this.

The Agilent version of any GC/MS libraries or databases will contain the library in a format that is compatible with Agilent data systems. This will allow for searches to be made directly from the Agilent data analysis software. If you purchase the generic version then you would have to export the spectrum to another program that could utilize the native library or database format.
