  • General Recommendations for Using an Agilent RID

This Information Applies To: Agilent Refractive Index Detectors, G1362A and G7162A/B. Issue: The RID is sensitive to its environment and can experience stability problems when exposed to contamination, vibrations, mechanical shocks, or changes in temperature or pressure. Resolution: Considerations on the general set-up: To avoid cross-talk between different solvent channels, preferably use an isocratic pump when operating a RID. If it is not possible to use an isocratic pump, consider...
  • Replacing the Inlet Septum for Split/Spitless and Multimode Inlets

Issue: This article describes how to replace the inlet septum for Split/Splitless and multimode inlets for all Agilent GC Systems. Regular replacement of the septum can reduce small leaks in the inlet, allow for more reproducible chromatography, and protect the column from degradation. Replacement intervals should be every 100 to 400 injections depending...

Autosampler Switches Off - Cooler Tacho Condenser Fan Signal Is Zero

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent G7129A/B Autosampler with Sample Thermostat/Cooler G7167-60101 or G7167-60005.

Issue:

The autosampler may stop working from time to time, potentially giving off loud noises and switching off the light. The only message found in the OL Software Activity Log is "Sample temperature control off", but it is not an error message. A "configuration changed" or "controller stop automation request" may show in red.

Performing the Sample Cooler Function Test with the Lab Advisor Software under Service & Diagnostics may give a "passed" result.

This article gives information on how to proceed if for the cooler tacho condenser fan a constant signal of 0 (Figure 1, top) is shown. Typically the curve should be looking similar to the following example (Figure 1, bottom). The results of the test can be seen by clicking Print Results after the Sample Cooler Function Test has finished.

Figure 1. Signal plots for the Cooler Tacho Condenser Fan - Top: No signal, Bottom: Typical signal. x - time in seconds, y - raw data.

Resolution:

Temporarily, a reset of the module may solve the issue, but it will most likely appear again. Please contact your local Agilent Support representative if the problem continues.
