Other root causes could be the method application, or an instrument fault. Items Required If an internal standard line is required, install the...

AVS 6/7 Maintenance Checklist

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent 5000 Series ICP-OES, AVS 6/7

Issue

The AVS 6 and AVS 7 require routine maintenance. This article provides a maintenance checklist.

Figure 1. 1 AVS 7

 Warning
Warning: Always rinse all tubing and the valve before disconnecting the tubing from the switching valve to avoid contact with potentially dangerous chemicals. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) should be worn when handling components contaminated with chemicals.

 Caution
Caution: Any maintenance procedures not specifically mentioned should be performed by Agilent-trained, Agilent-qualified, or Agilent-authorized field service engineers.

Steps to Follow

 Daily

  • Clean the surface of the AVS accessories. Spills should be cleaned up immediately.
  • Inspect the AVS tubing if present. Replace if necessary.
  • Check that the sample loop is filling completely for the first few samples in the first run of the day.
  • Check that there are no blockages in the uptake line, sample probe or connectors used on the uptake line.
  • Check for blockages in the switching valve. If the loop still does not fill completely, the rotor may need to be replaced. Refer to the Help section of the Agilent ICP Expert Instrument Software.
  • Check for increases in carry over in blanks. If carry over is increasing, the valve may require the rotor and/or stator to be cleaned or replaced. Refer to the Help section of the Agilent ICP Expert Instrument Software.
  • Flush the sample flow path to remove acidic solutions. At the end of each period of operation, always flush through the flow paths of the switching valve accessory with de-ionized water or an appropriate solvent for organic applications, such as isopropyl alcohol (propan-2-ol).
