Issue

How to Reset the AVS 6/7 after maintenance or when a red LED is visible

Steps to follow

 Tip
Tips: Instructions for changing the AVS switching valve can be found in the ICP Expert Help under “Hardware How to” and “Replace the AVS 4/6/7 Tubing”.

Figure 1.  ICP Expert Help

  • After replacing the AVS valve and tubing, a red LED is showing on the AVS plate. Figure 2 shows the location of the AVS LED indicator

Figure 2: AVS plate showing LED indicator

  • Select the Reset function on the Instrument page in ICP Expert (Figure 3).

Figure 3: AVS control section on the Instrument Page

Success  Confirmation: If the AVS LED indicator turns green, the reset was successful and no further actions are needed.
  • If the LED remains red or an error message appears, perform a system reset by power cycling the ICP-OES system by following these steps:
    1. Save and close the software
    2. Turn off the PC
    3. Turn off chiller (if on)
    4. Turn off the autosampler
    5. Turn off the instrument by pressing the front button on the bottom left (while facing the instrument) (Figure 4)
    6. Turn off the main power switch on the left side of the instrument (Figure 5) and wait 5 minutes

Figure 5: Main power switch

  •  Power on the ICP-OES system:
    1. Press the main power switch on the instrument to turn the power back on (Figure 5)
    2. Press the front button on the bottom left of the instrument (Figure 4)
    3. Let the instrument fully initialize. The instrument LED indicator should be a light yellow or amber color once this process is completed
    4. Turn on the autosampler and let it fully initialize (the probe will move to all four corners and return to the rinse position)
    5. Turn on the PC
    6. Open the software
    7. Ensure that the instrument is connected to the software (Software will say “Connected” on the top-left corner of the Instrument page and the LED indicator on instrument should be green
    8. Select the Instrument page in the software menu
    9. Is the LED on the AVS plate still red? Try resetting via the software again (Fig. 2)
    10. LED on the AVS plate should be green indicating it is ready to use
    11. Chiller can be turned on and the instrument prepared for use
 Caution
Caution:  If the AVS LED indicator is still red after this process, please verify that installation was performed properly.  If the red LED persists after reinstallation of the AVS valve and tubing and following the preceding steps, please contact Agilent Technical Support or the local Agilent Representative
