How to Run ICP-MS MassHunter Glitch Resetter

This Information Applies To: Agilent ICP-MS MassHunter Software 4.4 and above (Rev C. and Rev D.)

Issue

The Glitch Resetter resets configuration setting files for MassHunter and can be used when the MassHunter software is exhibiting strange behavior such as: 

• Wrong arrangement of user interface or missing icon/menu.
• MassHunter Instrument control or Data Analysis crashes or will not open.
• Unable to complete startup because hardware settings are too far from the correct value.
• Connection problem of LC.

Caution: Running the glitch resetter will set hardware settings, communication settings, and user interface setting back to default. You will need to re-enter all settings after running the glitch resetter.

Requirements

Running the Glitch Resetter requires MassHunter 4.4 or greater without User Access Control Software.
If MassHunter prompts you for a username and password after opening the software, you use User Access Control Software and must perform this alternative to the glitch resetter. 

Before running the glitch resetter, it is recommended to take note of the software settings to assist with re-entering the settings after running the glitch resetter. If the software will not open at all, it might not be possible to note these settings. 

Steps to Follow

1. If Instrument Control opens, capture the software settings for MassHunter 4.4 - 4.6 or for MassHunter 5.1 and above.
2. Close all MassHunter software windows.
3. Run the glitch resetter on the instrument computer (Figure 1).
   Note: The location of the glitch resetter depends on the software version -
   For MH 4.4 - 4.5: C:\Program Files (x86)\Agilent\ICPMH\Utilities\IcpMHSWDiagnostics.exe
   For MH 4.6 and above: C:\Program Files\Agilent\ICPMH\Utilities\IcpMHSWDiagnostics.exe
   1. Double click IcpMHSWDiagnostics.exe
   2. Type Y when prompted, then press Enter on your keyboard
   3. The MassHunter software will open and close automatically
   4. Press any key when prompted, then press Enter on your keyboard to exit.
4. Open the MassHunter software and reconfigure the software settings.
