Setting the IP Address for a 7820A GC

Issue

7820A GC is designed with simplified keypad that comes with five buttons. They are Stop, Prep Run, Start, Up and Down arrow buttons. Changing the IP address requires a different method compared to instruments with Keypad or touch screen.

Resolution

It may be necessary to check the current IP address before setting up new IP address for the 7820A GC.

There are two ways to set up IP address for 7820A GC:

• Via Virtual Agilent Remote Control Panel (AGRCP) - A virtual keypad allows setting up any IP address. 
• Via 7820A GC keypad - This GC keypad method can only set the default IP address.

Check current IP address 

Press the Down arrow button several times on the 7820A keypad (see Figure 2) until the IP address is displayed.
Knowing the current IP address will allow users to set up a connection to the 7820A virtual keypad using this IP address and change it if necessary.

Set up the 7820A GC IP address via Virtual Agilent Remote Control Panel (AGRCP) 

1. From the Virtual AGRCP, click the Options button (Figure 1).

2. Click the Down arrow button to scroll to Communication, then click the [Enter] button.
3. Scroll to IP. Use the numeric keypad to enter the numbers of the GC IP address, separated by dots, and click [Enter].
   A message tells you to power cycle the instrument. Do not power cycle yet. Click [Clear].
4. Scroll to GW. Enter the Gateway number and click [Enter].
   Do not power cycle yet. Click [Clear].
5. Scroll to SM and click [Mode/Type]. Scroll to the appropriate subnet mask from the list given and click [Enter].
   Do not power cycle yet. Click [Clear].
6. Scroll to Reboot GC. Click [On/Yes] and [On/Yes] to power cycle the instrument and apply the LAN setpoints.

Set up default IP address Via 7820A GC Keypad: 

1. Power off the GC.
2. Press and hold the Prep Run button (Figure 2).

3. Power on the GC while pressing the Prep Run button. Wait until the GC initializes.
4. The IP address will be set to the following values.

   IP Address	192.168.0.26
   Subnet Mask	255.255.255.0
   Gateway	192.168.0.1
