Exporting the MassHunter Data Acquisition Software Logs

Issue

How to view the MassHunter Data Acquisition Software Logs entries, change settings, and export the Logbook for archiving or to send to an Agilent Support representative.

Background

The Logbook displays information about system events including:

  • Run starts, stops, and aborts
  • Method loaded
  • Tuning and calibration operations
  • Unexpected software errors
  • Device driver errors, warnings, and alerts including leak detection, vial not found, lamp burned out
  • Device powered off or reconfiguration
  • Start up and shutdown
  • Worklist events

Steps to Follow

Opening the System Logbook

There are three ways to access the logbook.

  • From the Windows start menu, click Agilent MassHunter LC/MS Acq > Acq System Logbook. 
  • In the MassHunter Acquisition software, from the main menu, click Tools > System Logbook Viewer
  • Click the desktop icon if available (see Figure 1)

Using the System log

The most recent entries will be displayed in the log file (see Figure 2).

Entries can be filtered by clicking the funnel icon based on date and time, event type, event source, and category.

Exporting the log file

To export the log file as an HTM file, from the main menu, click File> Print, select the File check box, and click OK (Figure 3).

To export the log file as a .log file, from the main menu, click File> Save Logbook As and save a copy in the desired folder (see Figure 4)

By default, the system logbook file is in the path D:\MassHunter\SysLogbook.log.

Purge settings

Logbook entries persist in the log file for one week. There is a Purge timer in the Logbook’s settings (Tools > Purge Settings). The purge value can be changed to between one day and one year. For ECM systems, only the acq manager role has permission to change this setting.

The Logbook will not be purged/archived if there has been no activity and purging of entries older that the set timer only occurs when the logbook service is restarted.
