How to Fix "Data system not ready" on 7697A Headspace Sampler

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent 7697A headspace sampler

Issue

During sequence running, there is error message: "Sequence aborted: Data System Not Ready" displayed on the 7697A display screen.

Resolution

  • Check GC cycle time. If the GC cycle time is set too short in the GC Method the sequence will abort before the scheduled run time is reached. See the article How to calculate GC Cycle Time for use with Headspace for further detail.
  • Check and ensure that the remote start cable (Agilent p/n G1530-60930) between GC and headspace sampler is properly connected and securely connected at both ends. See Figure 1 for the location of the remote start cable port on the back of the 7697 Headspace Sampler. 
  • A defective remote cable will give the same error message. In cases where a defective remote cable is suspected, please swap with another remote cable (Agilent p/n G1530-60930) that has been verified to be working if one is available.
