Installing Parallel Capillary Electrophoresis Controller and Data Analysis Software

Issue

Guidance for installing the Agilent parallel capillary electrophoresis instrument controller and/or ProSize data analysis software. You can install the software on a different PC or to upgrade to the latest software version.

Resolution

The controller software and ProSize analysis software for each parallel capillary electrophoresis instrument can be downloaded from the following webpages on the Agilent website:

For each software download page, the ProSize software section is at the top, but if you scroll down, you will see the link to download the instrument controller software. Read me files, which detail each software’s system requirements can be downloaded from the same webpage.

  
Caution: If the software is installed on a computer, which was not supplied by Agilent, Agilent cannot guarantee the performance of the instrument with the PC. It is best practice to back up all data, custom methods, and custom configurations before upgrading the software or changing the PC. Storage locations can be found in the following instructions.

Installing ProSize

If you are installing software only for data analysis purposes, and not to control the instrument, install the ProSize data analysis software. You do not need to install the instrument controller software. 

  1. Click Register for download and fill in the form to download the zip file containing the ProSize installer.
  2. Unzip the zip file and install ProSize by running the file ProSize data analysis software.exe.
  3. Copy any data that you wish to view from the PC controlling the instrument. The default location that data is saved in is C:/Agilent Technologies/Data or C:/AATI/Data.

If you are installing the software on a different PC:

  1. Copy over any custom configuration files. In the location C:\ProSize data analysis software\Configurations, there are the folders, 22 cm, 33 cm and 55 cm, corresponding to the different possible capillary lengths. Each of these folders contain configuration files, which have a .ini extension.
  2. From the folder C:\ProSize data analysis software\support, copy the files ProSize.ini and ProSize.db3 (only present if users are required to log in to ProSize with username and password).
   Tip: If a previous software version is already installed and you are upgrading the software, it is not necessary to copy over the previously mentioned files. However, before the software upgrade, it is best practice to back up the files, along with all data, custom methods, and custom configurations. You do not need to uninstall the old version when upgrading software. The new version should just overwrite the old software version.

 

Installing the Instrument Controller Software

  1. Download the zip file containing the installer for the instrument controller.
  2. Unzip the zip file and install the instrument controller software by running the controller software .exe file.
  3. Download the corresponding Method files from the same webpage and copy the contents of the zip file to the location: C:\Agilent Technologies \Methods

If you are installing the software on a different PC:

1. From the folder (where instrument is the name of your instrument type) C:\Agilent TechnologiesI\Instrument or C:\AATII\Instrument copy the following files:

  • CapArrayInfo.ini (contains the capillary array serial number and use information)
  • Instrument.ini (contains instrument use information)
  • SysLog.db3 (contains enhanced security mode information)
  • Instrument.oal (capillary alignment information)

2. Copy any custom method files from the folder C:\AATI or Agilent Technologies\Methods.

   Tip: If a previous software version is already installed and you are upgrading the software, it is not necessary to copy over the previously mentioned files. However, before the software upgrade, it is best practice to back up the files, along with all data, custom methods, and custom configurations. You do not need to uninstall the old version when upgrading software. The new version should just overwrite the old software version.

 

  
Tip: Installing the controller software on a new PC will not result in an instrument crash. The stage location info is stored on the stage board.
