Removing the GTA Furnace Workhead

Issue

There may be occasions when users need to remove GTA furnace center block workhead (instruments with both Flame and Furnace capabilities) from the sample compartment.

Steps to Follow

Warning: Hot Surface. Parts of the furnace become hot during use. To prevent burns, always allow the furnace to cool completely before touching.

Removing the GTA furnace

1. Turn off the gas and water supplies. Switch off and unplug both spectrometer and GTA Control unit. Remove PSD if installed.
2. Remove the left panel (Figure 1; Item 1) on the instrument and open the storage compartment door (Figure 1; Item 2) on the GTA unit.

3. Loosen the securing screw on the bottom right of the furnace that secures the furnace to the burner adjuster (Figure 2).

4. Lift the furnace workhead away from the mount and out of the sample compartment. 
5. Position the furnace within the storage compartment by swinging the furnace towards the storage position in a wide arc. Prevent the black connection tube from twisting. 
6. Lower the furnace into position for storage (Figure 3).

7. Position the two plastic spigots over the plastic railing (Figure 4; Item 1). Position the stainless steel spigot on the edge of the metal plate to allow the screw to engage in the thread (Figure 4; Item 2).

8. Finger-tight the securing screw. 
9. Refit the left instrument panel.
