What are the factors affecting peak tailing in GC ?
What are the factors affecting peak tailing in GC ?
Hi koti.vanga,
Peak tiling can happened by many reasons
1- Contaminated injector liner this solved by clean or replace injector liner,Contaminated column Bake out the column
Cut 4 inches off the end of the column.
2-poor installed column and liner ,and this confirm by injecting inert peak(methane) if it tails, column is not properly installed. Reinstall liner and column.
3-Split ratio is too low Increase split ratio to at least 20/1.
so we need more information like inlet, split ratio,.......is Mr.James referred.
Best regards

Hi koti.vanga,
Do you have an example you could show us? Peak tailing can be an inlet problem where maintenance needs to be completed. We need a bit more information such as the GC Model, inlet type , detetcor etc.

James
Hi
thank you
GC model : Auto Sampler: 7890B, 7693A;
Capillary column inlet
FID detector
split ratio 200
Best regards

Hi koti.vanga,
can you attach image to this problem ,do you inject by auto sampler or LSV ?
The split ratio 200 high so check for leaks ,if not leaks in injector, column connection
try reinstall column in injector and detector side because the most peak tiling problem cause by leaks and bad instillation for column.
see below links for instillation

I didn't see a column flow listed. If the total flow on the inlet is 200 ml or above, its recommended for a split/splitless inlet to have a cross cut gold seal rather than the regular seal. The parameters supplied do not mention inlet type.
Cross cut gold seal for spli/splitless inlet 5182-9652 .
Liner information would be helpful as well.

James
It could also be a bad column or it got trashed by a bad sample. 200 is very high, money right out the vent.
