Why does MassHunter 4.6 for 7900 ICP-MS rename batchfiles with a # after them?

Why does MassHunter 4.6 for 7900 ICP-MS rename batchfiles with a # after them as captured in the Audit Trail, Category Reason Instrument Control, for examples

In C.01.06

The audit trail stated the following:

  1. Instrument Control Create

ICPMS2-PC/SQLEXPRESS/VAIMDB_CPL Test Database(000)/2021_Data/BATCH_#2.b from ICPMS2-PC/SQLEXPRESS/VAIMDB_CPL Test Database(000)/2021_Data/BATCH.b and add ICPMS2-PC/SQLEXPRESS/VAIMDB_CPL Test Database(000)/2021_Data/BATCH_#2.b to queue.

  1. Instrument Control Create

ICPMS2-PC/SQLEXPRESS/VAIMDB_CPL Test Database(000)/2021_Data/BATCH_#3.b from ICPMS2-PC/SQLEXPRESS/VAIMDB_CPL Test Database(000)/2021_Data/BATCH_#2.b and add ICPMS2-PC/SQLEXPRESS/VAIMDB_CPL Test Database(000)/2021_Data/BATCH_#3.b to queue.

I understand that the renaming of batch files with a # in MassHunter 4.6 for 7900 ICP-MS is a part of the software’s file management system. When a new batch file is created from an existing one, the software appends a # followed by a number to the original file name. This helps in maintaining unique file names and avoiding overwriting of data.

For example, in your provided audit trail, BATCH.b was copied to create BATCH_#2.b, which was then copied to create BATCH_#3.b. Each time a new file is created, it’s added to the queue for processing.

This behavior is completely understandable in software systems that handle large amounts of data and need to ensure data integrity and prevent accidental loss of information.

My question is what did the operator due to make the batches copy themselves?
