I think you should get your Agilent service engineer out as soon as possible to confirm if it is RF generator or Power Supply. Also check if the torch and analyzer hoods are properly closed.

Hi, I have two ICP-OES 5800. The old one (two years), the RF generator broke twice, and we had Agilent replace that part. The new one (one year old), the RF generator, broke last week. Anyone is facing the same issue. We don’t have electrical issues or any other problems that can affect the ICP’s. Anyone have any input?

Hello, what temperature do you set the chiller?  Should be around 21C.  If in a humid climate adjust to 24C. 

Also, check that you are not seeing RF water flow with the plasma off.  If you go to Instrument menu window, Dashboard, and select the Air/Water Cooling gauges the RF water and Camera water flows will show up.  Camera water flow should read around 1.0 L/min as long as the chiller is on.  RF water flow should read 0.0L/min with the plasma off.  If you are reading flow, then cold water is getting to the RF generator and could be causing condensation inside.  This could short circuit the electronics and cause premature failure of the part.

The chiller is set for 20 °C. The camera water flow read 1.5 liters per minute, and the RF water flow with the plasma off is 0.0.

The previous two RF generator parts replaced had no problems with leaks.

Any other input is very appreciated.

Hi it is very important, that the cooling fluid in the chiller is the correct one.

Agilent Cool Clear should be used. In case that you do not use this, your fluid should have a conductivity less than 150 uS/cm
