Instructions on how to safely turn off the Agilent 6100 Series or InfinityLab Series LC/MS System
Steps to Follow
Turn off the LC solvent flow.
Caution: If you have analyte in any of the components of the LC flow path, flush the flow path with pure solvent before you continue, then turn off LC flow once flushing is complete.
|
Put the MS into standby state. (See Put your Single Quadrupole LC/MS Instrument into Standby Using OpenLab CDS)
Wait for the MS to reach standby setpoint temperature and gas flows.
In the Instrument Status window, click the Dashboard tab.
Right click the SQ Instrument Status Pane, and click Vent (See Figure 1)
Caution: You are shown a Caution message before you can Vent the system. It can take several hours to re-establish the proper vacuum levels and to re-equilibrate temperatures if there is an unwanted vent. Check if the MS will not be needed for any further analysis before venting.
|
To vent the instrument, click Yes to proceed with venting.
During the vent cycle, the following occurs:
Spray chamber voltages, the drying gas heater, the nebulization gas flow, the detector, and other specific lens voltages are all turned off.
The drying gas flow is set to standby.
If the APCI source is installed, the vaporizer heater is also turned off.
If an Agilent Jet Stream source is installed, then the sheath gas heater is also turned off.
The Rough Pump turns off when the turbo pump speed is below 20%
Wait until the instrument completely vents, reaching a rough vacuum reading of 760 Torr, or atmospheric pressure. The vent process normally takes less than 10 mins and the rough vacuum readings can be monitored via the SQ tab instrument actuals. Scroll down to see the rough vacuum reading.
Once the instrument is vented, close the OpenLab Online session, turn off the instrument using the front power switch.
Warning: Certain internal components are energized whenever the main power cable is connected even if the front power switch is turned off, so it is always safer to unplug the main power cable after venting. |
Unplug the main power cable connecting the MS to the power outlet to de-energize the MS
If necessary, the LC modules can now also be switched off at the power switch at the front left bottom corner of each LC module.
