Oil Mist Filter Change for DS 402 Foreline Pump in ICP-MS Systems

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent ICP-MS (7700/7800/8800)

Issue

How to replace the Foreline Pump Oil Mist Filter in the DS 402 foreline pump.

Background

The oil mist filter element should be replaced yearly, or when the level of oil in the filter casing is above the mark on the oil-level sight-glass.

Items Required

  • Oil mist filter for DS 402 (p/n 9499342M002)

Warning:
  • The surface of the foreline pump may be HOT, do not touch the pump until it has cooled.
  • Never replace the oil mist filter while the pump is on.
  • Properly dispose of the oil mist filter according to local law and regulations.
  • Wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses (goggles).

Steps to Follow

Checking the Oil Mist Filter

  1. Locate the oil-level sight-glass on the side of the filter casing. If the level of the oil is above the mark, replace the oil mist filter.

Replacing the Oil Mist Filter

  1. Turn off the foreline pump (vacuum off) and confirm the foreline pump breaker switch on the back of the ICP-MS is in the off (O) position (down).
  2. Disconnect the clamp and exhaust hose from the top of the oil mist filter assembly (Figure 2).
