Filtering Signal in Reporting with OpenLab CDS

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent OpenLab CDS

Issue

This article provides step-by-step instructions to filter a signal in an Intelligent Report.

Requirements

To be able to carry out the procedure as described, the privilege of Data Processing > Print results reports is required. Privileges are configured in the Control Panel.

Steps to Follow

  1. Load data.
  2. Go to the Reporting navigation view.
  3. In the Home ribbon tab, select the Editor layout.
  4. In the Home ribbon tab, select both Report Editor and Report Preview windows.
  5. In the Report Templates section, double click a report template to load it. In this example, Short_Area_Letter.rdl is used. Chromatograms for two signals (FID and MS) are shown in this report. See Figure 1.

    Figure 1. Select Editor Layout
    1. Go to Reporting Navigation View, 2. Select Editor Layout, 3. Select Report Editor and Report Preview Windows, 4. Load Report Template Short_Area_Letter.rdl

  6. Right click the chromatograms, then click Properties (Figure 2).
  7. Go to Filtering (Figure 2). For further details, see this article on Filtering.
  8. Under the Expression column, double click Expression to open the Expression Editor, then type =signal_description and click OK (Figure 2).

Figure 2. Enter Customized Expression in Expression Column

  9. Under the Operation column, select Contains from the drop-down menu (Figure 3).
  10. Under the Value column, double click Expression to open the Expression Editor, then type  =”*FID1B*” (Figure 3).
  11. Then click OK twice to exit the Chromatogram Properties (Figure 3).

Figure 3. Enter Customized Expression in Value Column

  12.  Click Refresh Preview to see chromatogram for FID signal (Figure 4).

Figure 4. Click Refresh Preview to See Changes

  13. A similar procedure can be used for tables. See Figure 5 for an example of how to filter an MS signal on the table.
The expression is not case-sensitive, either lower case or upper case would work. Pay attention to the space among the words.
