  • Troubleshooting Unstable Retention Time Issues - Cleaning the Multichannel Gradient Valve (MCGV) on Agilent Quaternary Pump Modules

This Information Applies To: All Agilent LC pump modules with MCGV installed (quaternary pumps) Issue: Shifting retention times: The composition of the mobile phase in liquid chromatography directly influences retention times. If any of the channels of the MCGV are partially or fully blocked, the gradient produced will be different from the analytical method. Clogging of the MCGV may occur when the system is not rinsed properly or stored incorrectly. If the following steps don’t solve the...

GC Column Configuration Using OpenLab CDS Software

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent OpenLab CDS software (Rev. 2x)

Issue

If the column configuration has been defined in the method, the instrument will calculate the pressure to maintain the target column flow rate. The column configuration must be edited or calibrated when a new column is installed, or the column is trimmed during routine maintenance.

The GC column configuration can be edited via the

  • OpenLab CDS 2.x software,
  • Keyboard on the 7890 GC
Column Configuration for the 7890 GC System
  • Touch screen or browser interface on the 8860 or 8890 GC
Column Configuration for the 8860/8890 GC System

Steps to Follow

  1. In the top ribbon, click the Home tab, then go to Method > Configuration > Columns and select the appropriate column (Figure 1):

    Method Screen
Figure 1. Navigate to the column

  2. Select the column of interest and perform one of the following actions:
    • Click Calibrate and edit with one of the provided options and confirm by clicking OK (Figure 2):
