LRAM , I assume you are referring to the pump expander box which plugs into the wall 200 -240 VAC outlet.
Per the 6470 Site Prep document, there are 2 main power connections which require 200 - 240 VAC. One is used for the Mass Spectrometer (AC board) and the other is used for the pump expander box.
The pump expander box is solely used to power up the rough pump(s). In your case, this is a single MS40+ rough pump.
The main MS power connection helps bring in line voltage to the AC board which is used to distribute and control power throughout the MS. This is what powers the turbo power supplies which power on your turbos.
