6495C: Capillary Current - constant or variable

Should the capillary current remain constant throughout a run while the flow is being directed to the MS (not waste)? What would a decreasing capillary current indicate?

I have a similar question. Specifically, I am seeing a region where the capillary current drops quite low, then returns to a more constant value. This is when analysing standards in solvent so no matrix effects. The drop is repeatable between injections.
