Can I compensate for TFA ion suppression with more sample?

I need 0.1% TFA to do my protein separation for now. Can I just inject more sample to make up for the loss in signal intensity on the MS side (on the scale of 10ug analyte per injection)? Will I risk damaging my QTOF in any way doing this?

  • Hi Jill,

The use of TFA will  contaminate the entire flow path of the system. This includes the use of  any vacuum degasser,   tubing used, the column,  and the MS source. Unless you can dedicate the instrument to the one application, the basic guideline is, do not use ion pairing reagents with LC-MS systems. .
