Manual tuning for GC triple quad 7000 series

We currently run autotunes every couple of weeks, however we are in need of daily maintenance indicators. Are there any benefits to manual tuning that would outweigh autotuning and give us a daily status? I'm looking for a "heartbeat" for the instrument's performance that we can track from day to day, and ideally, we would manually adjust to maintain the same performance over time.

I've seen guidance documents for tuning Agilent GC MS single quads, but I'm having a difficult time finding anything similar for triple quads. Any direction or insight would be greatly appreciated!

  • Yeah I prefer to run an autotune and then run daily check tunes to monitor the status. It is possible to go into advanced autotune and run portions of the autotune, such as the detector gain calibration/normalization. This may be necessary to do more frequently than updating the tune for the ion source and quad.

As long as the autotune is giving you good results there is nothing wrong with what you're doing. I agree, it is really nice to monitor the tune report and know that your "optimal tune parameters" are not changing significantly---my first piece of advice to any new MS user is to keep careful records of the autotune and any maintenance. If you tune regularly and start to see big changes in the tune then you know maintenance is necessary. Monitoring the checktune can do this for you as well.
