What settings for ECD when not in use?

What settings should I use for our ECD when not in use. I am guessing that it would be best to remove the column and cap the detector inlet. What temp and makeup gas flow is good for short term storage?

  • Are you pulling the column to try and save on carrier gas cost? I keep column flow between 0.5-1 mL/min depending on the instrument and drop makeup flows to 15 mL/min while keeping everything hot. I've left the inlet hot and the detectors cold with those settings for months and signal returns to where it was after warming up for an hour or so.

If you aren't sticking it on a shelf or putting it to sleep for a long time I'd just keep it hot and use the lowest column flow setting your EPC will still hold pressure with.
