In this case I am a bit stumped. How did you realize you have flow going backwards? What was the test/measurement that showed you that?

I cannot think of any other reason for flow to go backwards if no Backflush is installed/

The liner had the wool blown out of the bottom of the liner. To me it looked like the flow was backflowing into the liner. I tried to upload a picture of the liner but I couldn't figure it out.

The only time I heard that happening was if the inlet weldment was open while the inlet was still pressurized. You'd hear a loud pop and the wool would come flying out.

Apart from that, I don't think that is a common occurrence. If you suspect a clog, you can try to change the column and see if that alleviates the leak test.

Short of that, I think your best bet at this point is to reach out to your local Agilent Team. 

What I thought was the wool from the liner was stationary phase that had blown back into the liner. We replaced the column and the system functioned perfectly. So the clog was not the inlet it was in the column.
