ALS Failure Code 153: Autosampler serial port error

Observe the following on a Agilent 7890A: 
 ALS Failure State: Moving Vials 
 ALS Failure Code {153}: Autosampler serial port error 
 What is a common cause of this error and what can one do to mitigate it?

 Do you still need assistance with this? If you do, please take into consideration the notes below. However, if the issue was resolved, could you please share what the resolution was? 
 
 What type of tower are you using? If you have a cable from another tower (same model), I would try swapping cables and see if that works. Or, alternatively, swap towers from front to back, and see if the problem follows the ALS (or the cable, depending on what you change). 
 
 Also, are you getting the error at the beginning of the run, or in the middle? 
 
 It could also be a bad ALS board on the GC.
