Argon as carrier gas for FID?

Hi Agilent,

Due to helium shortage, we need to change carrier gas for our GC-FID. Most documentation for Agilent suggests either H2 or N2, and the Chemstation configuration shows those options as well.

We are considering using argon, however, I can not find documentation that supports its suitability for GC-FID. And also wonder how can I configure my GC-FID to use argon if it is not listed as an option in Chemstation.

What considerations should I take into account for using Ar as carrier gas for GC-FID?

Thanks,
