The 7697A HS has a purge flow always flowing through the sample probe to keep it clean. This is supplied on the same path as the vial pressurization. Check the pressure of the He or N2 gas that is used for this purpose. A pressure of 50-60 psig should be sufficient.
Could it be that the sample probe is clogged?
The standby vial flow can be changed under the configuration settings on the HS. Press Config on the front panel to access these.
I think if the sample probe were completely clogged it could cause this problem. Run the built-in restriction and pressure decay test under Service Mode. The first part of the test sends flow through the probe and makes sure that there isn't any restriction. You'll need the blue leak test vial that was included in the 7697 ship kit. A short guide on leak testing the 7697 can be found at https://www.agilent.com/cs/library/usermanuals/public/G4556-90001.pdf. If the test fails at any step it will halt the test, and the guide outlines the likely causes of the problem.
Good to hear it is a simple fix. Sometimes it's easier to just replace the probe. Also, make sure that the vials are less than half full to avoid the probe touching the sample, as this can cause the probe to clog.
Hello again, I took my sample probe and there is not clogged but, the HS still show me the message "vial EPC SHUTDOWN to restore operation press Vial and on", and the restriction and pressure decay test still failling in the first step. How do I can check where is the problem?
It's failing in the step 1 "vent CLOSED (INJECT)" in the guide you linked me says:
"If the test fails this stage, check:
• The sample probe
• A leak causing no restriction value"
I don't have problems with my sample probe, I checked and there is not clogged. I looked for leaks, and I didn't find it.
Is it failing during the very first step or later in the leak and restriction test? There are six steps total in the test, so knowing exactly where it fails in the test will help us narrow the possibilities. The guide I linked previously lists some potential causes for each step (pages 11-17).
Disconnect the sample probe from the valve and start the leak and restriction test.
If it passes this step, it means that there is some restriction in the sample probe, enough to cause that part of the test to fail. Try a brand new probe.
If it fails again, note the pressure and flow values that it gives. That can help figure out what is happening.
