Cleaning the 5000 Series Agilent ICP-OES Water Inlet Filter

This Information Applies To: Agilent ICP-OES 5100, 5110, 5800, 5900

Issue:

Over time the water inlet filter can become clogged and reduce water flow. Reduced water flow limits the system cooling and can result in the instrument shutting down during analysis.

Recommended maintenance schedule: Agilent recommends cleaning the water inlet filter every three months.

Tool required:

• Adjustable wrench

Steps to follow:

Caution: Always turn off your instrument before attempting to replace a filter and do not operate the instrument while the filter is removed.

1. Turn off the ICP-OES instrument

2. Turn off the water chiller

3. Gently pull the back of the right side panel towards you and then slide it off the instrument

4. Place a beaker or paper towel under the water filter

5. Unscrew the water filter drain plug with a 17 mm open ended wrench

   

6. Remove the drain plug

   

7. Remove the filter from the housing

   

8. Soak the filter in water or a mild detergent and then rinse thoroughly with tap water

9. Insert the filter into the drain plug

10. Insert the water drain plug into the housing and then tighten with a wrench

11. Turn on the chiller

12. Turn on the instrument.
