Reporting Peak Area and Retention Time of Sequence in Excel Format with OpenLab CDS

Issue

This article shows how to export a report of peak area and retention time of a sequence in an Excel format.

Prerequisites

• To be able to carry out the procedure as described, privileges of Data Processing > Print results reports and Report Template > Create report template are required. Privileges are configured in the Control Panel.
• The relevant peaks in the chromatograms are integrated.

Steps to Follow

1. Identify peaks. For more details, check article on Adding a peak as a compound to the processing method.
   Figure 1 shows identified peaks as Compounds A, B, C, D, and E. Note that peak with retention time of 6.680 is not identified, hence, it will not be reported.

2. Go to the Reporting navigation view, click the sequence under the injection tree. (Figure 2)

3. In the Home ribbon tab, click the Editor layout. (Figure 3)

4. In the Home ribbon tab, open the submenu of the New Template button, then select New Template via wizard. (Figure 4)

   The Report Wizard dialog box opens as shown in Figure 5
   
   
5. Select the basic report properties. (Figure 5)

   1. Report Types: select Single sequence summary (data grouped per sequence). For more details on different types of report, see the article Report types in OpenLab Help & Learning.
   2. Result Table Type: select either Matrix or Table. In this example, Matrix is selected.
      • Table: The results are presented as a table (dynamic number of rows, fixed number of columns).
      • Matrix: The results are presented as a matrix (dynamic number of rows and columns).
   3. Report Layout: Select the page size. If necessary, users can manually change height, width, and margins. In this example, Letter is selected.
   4. Paper Orientation: In this example, Portrait is selected.
      
      
6. Select the required header fields.
   1. Double-click the required data field in the Available Fields tree, or
      Select the field and click to bring it to the Selected Fields column on the right. 
   2. To change the order of the selected fields, click or .
   3. Click Next to continue. These fields will appear as data fields at the top of the report template body. The range of available fields depends on the previously selected report type.
   4. In Figure 6, Sequence Name and Signal Name are selected.

7. Configure the properties of the table or matrix. In this example, select Compound Summary RT Conc. snippet. (Figure 7)

   Users generate an overview of the retention times and concentrations for each detected compound. The compounds are shown as columns; the sample names, vial locations, and injection numbers are shown as rows. The snippet also contains summary calculations in the footer (average, standard deviation, and relative standard deviation).
   Note: OpenLab CDS 2.7 has extra snippet Flexible Compound Concentration Summary. For more details, read Create a matrix.
   
   
8. Optional: Click the Use Trend Chart check box to include a chart in the report template. Select one of the predefined charts from the drop-down list, and configure the properties of the trend chart. In this example, this feature is not selected.
   
   
9. Click Finish to close the wizard and create the template according to the selected options. (Figure 8)

10. In the Home ribbon tab, click the Preview layout, open the submenu of the Save Template button, then select Save Template as. (Figure 9)

    1. Click Save Template as, 2. Type Down the File Name, 3. Click Save
    
    

11. To export the report in Excel format, in the Home ribbon tab, select Save as XLSX. (Figure 10).

    1. Click Save as XLSX, 2. Enter the File Name, 3. Click Save
    
    

12. Go to the designated storage path and open an Excel sheet. The sheet looks like Figure 11.
    Note that peak with retention time of 6.680 is not identified, hence, it is not reported in the below excel sheet.
