License Error "The Desired Vendor Daemon is Down"

Answer

This Information Applies To: Agilent OpenLab ChemStation, Agilent OpenLab CDS, Agilent OpenLab EZChrom

Issue

Due to the license error “An error occurred connecting to the license server: The desired vendor daemon is down. Check the Imgrd log file, or try Imread. Feature", it is not possible to launch the instrument session.

Requirements

Close all Agilent OpenLab software applications and log in to the PC as an administrator.

Background

After some events, especially if Windows was shut down abruptly, for example, a power supply failure, Agilent software cannot be launched due to license error. These errors can be caused by services or vendor daemon not started, corrupted files, or by the "lmgrd.exe" process.

Another error message examples:

  • Failed to Acquire One or More Mandatory Licenses
  • No Core Licenses Available
  • Connection to Selected Server Failed
  • Unable to Connect to Instrument Server

Resolution

Solution 1: Ensure that the name of the computer was not changed. If the name is different, either:

  1. Change the PC name back to the original.
  2. Follow the instruction from Change PC/Host Name with OpenLab CDS 2.4 article. Return and regenerate license with the new computer name (see How to Return and Update a License File for Agilent OpenLab Software). Install a new license file to correct this issue.

Solution 2: Stop and restart the Agilent OpenLab Services (see How to Restart Agilent OpenLab Services in Windows 10).

Solution 3: Delete or rename activation_state.xml and/or concurrent_state.xml:

  1. Stop the Agilent OpenLab Services
  2. Delete or rename the following files:
    • C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\AgilentTechnologies\OpenLABServices\Licensing\Flexera\conf\concurrent_state.xml to concurrent_state.xml.old (Figure 1).
    • C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\AgilentTechnologies\OpenLABServices\Licensing\Flexera\conf\activation_state.xml to activation_state.xml.old
  3. Restart Agilent OpenLab Services, or reboot the PC.

Figure 1. Location of concurrent_state.xml file

Solution 4: Retrieve a new license file (see How to Return and Update a License File for Agilent OpenLab Software).

Solution 5: There is a process called Lmgrd.exe, which is not installed by Agilent through the OpenLab master installer. This file monitors the FlexNET Publisher and prevents it from recognizing the licensing as valid. Since this process is not an Agilent feature, consult with the IT department about the Lmgrd.exe process to avoid conflicts with other software installed in the PC.

If the issue continues, or need help with one of the solutions, contact your local Agilent Support Office.
