ChemStation ChemMain has stopped working

This Information Applies To: All OpenLab CDS ChemStation Edition software-Standalone Workstation

Issue

After launching OpenLab ChemStation Online, the following error is shown: “ChemStation ChemMain has stopped working”. OpenLab ChemStation Online not able to launch successfully, while OpenLab ChemStation Offline has no issue.

Note: This article does not apply to client/server systems.

Steps to Follow

  1. Close all OpenLab ChemStation software instances (Online, Offline, Control Panel).
  2. In the Windows Explorer go to the folder:
    • For recent versions of the OpenLab ChemStation software: C:\ProgramData\Agilent Technologies\ChemStation\1\, where 1 is the number of your instrument in order of configuration as listed under OpenLab Control Panel > Instruments.
    • For older versions of the OpenLab ChemStation software: C:\Chem32\1, where 1 is the number of your instrument in order of configuration as listed under OpenLab Control Panel > Instruments.
  3. Rename the CONFIG.REG to CONFIG.REGOLD or delete it, according to the instructions in the article OpenLab ChemStation Not Starting - Basic Troubleshooting
    The CONFIG.REG file will be recreated with the next start of the software.
  4. Relaunch the OpenLab ChemStation Online for the instrument. It should launch successfully without errors.
