Hey, with refractive index detection you will need to run isocratically. Make sure to flush the reference cell with the same conditions as your isocratic method.

there is an article in LC/GC NA describing this analysis on ZORBAX 300 HILIC RRHD and ZORBAX Eclipse Plus C18 RRHD. It is done with MS detection, but it might help you.

Thank you for your input. I have in fact tried a isocratic run as well, but still no peaks at all. Therefore I am wondering if I can even see the compounds with an RI

Normally ELSD or MS are used, but RI should work according to this article.
