Connection to the selected server failed

Hello,

What software product are you running (OpenLab CDS, OpenLab ChemStation, or OpenLab EZChrom)? 

Is this a standalone workstation installation, network workstation, or client/server installation of the software? When you try to open the OpenLab Control Panel, is the selected server you are trying to connect to 'localhost'?

Do you have an authentication provider selected in OpenLab? In other words, do you need to provide a username and password when you launch the OpenLab Control Panel? If so, what are you using as your authentication provider: Internal, Windows Domain, or ECM?

Thank you for your reply.

It is a standalone instrument running Openlab CDS and it is trying to connect to localhost. Yes you do need to enter a username and password (but this does not appear) and is an internal authorisation provider.

A couple things:

1) Make sure that you are not actually using Windows Domain authentication. Try launching the Shared Services Maintenance tool and check the Windows Domain tab. If you are using using the Windows Domain for authentication, and if you are using user credentials to authenticate and access the domain server, then make sure that the user credentials are valid. It could be that the user's password was changed and you need to update it in the Shared Services Maintenance tool:

2) Verify that your firewall is configured as documented in the Requirements Guide (page 24): https://www.agilent.com/cs/library/usermanuals/public/OpenLABCDSRequirements.pdf

Also make sure that all of the services whose names start with "Agilent OpenLAB" and whose Startup Types are Automatic are running.

I have checked the firewall and all ports are available.

When I click on windows domain, in shared services maintenance. All the options are greyed out and I cannot click on them.

Since all of the Windows Domain options are grayed out then we can use that as confirmation that you are not using the Windows Domain as the authentication provider for OpenLab. 

At this point I would recommend that you run the Software Verification Tool and verify that the installation of the OLSS and OpenLab CDS pass on the reports.

What version of OpenLab CDS are you running? In 2.4 a new Rest API was introduced that uses port 6625. I would verify that this port is not being blocked by the firewall either.

You can also use the netstat -abo command in the administrator command prompt to determine if another program might be using port 6625 or any of the other ports that should be reserved for OpenLab processes. 

No worries. If the problem is resolved by the engineer next week it would be greatly appreciated if you came back and updated us with what was done so that we can mark a correct answer for this post.
