Dissolution test for solid dosage forms

Hi all,

Maybe you could help me. Could you clarify a question I have about dissolution speed tests? Should the final samples for subsequent analysis be carried out with the solution still in motion or once the equipment and the speed of the paddles have stopped? I have doubts about what would be the most correct way to proceed and it is not fully specified in the pharmacopoeias.

Thank you.

  • For apparatus 1 (baskets) and 2 (paddles) sampling should be performed within ±2% of the timepoint specified and while the apparatus is still rotating. If you are performing an infinity/final spin at a higher speed (250rpm) at the end of the test (to ensure full release has occurred) then after the prescribed time for that fast spin the spindle speed can be lowered to the test speed to enable sampling.
