Frit ring stuck in 1290 in-inline filter

Question

Hello everyone 
 I'm experiencing a higher-than-normal backpressure on a 1290 binary pump, and suspect that the frit ring in the in-line filter (5067-6189) installed right after the pump is partially clogged, as this have previously been the case. 
 I&rsquo;ve never changed this frit before, and I can&rsquo;t see how I&rsquo;m supposed to replace the frit ring, as the 3 encircled parts below (including the frit in the middle) are tightly stuck together. The technical notes don&rsquo;t mention any tools other than the &frac14; inch wrench needed to first remove the capillary connected to the filter housing, and then open the filter to access the frit ring. 
 I would greatly appreciate some advice on whether this is normal, and how to replace the frit ring.

 You probably have this document, but just in case I'm sharing tha latest technical note for inline filter

 The filter cap, filter housing and filter insert are not orderable.All you can order and consequently change, are capillaries and the frit itself. 
 
 As you've mentioned that this is a problem that comes and goes, I would suggest to change to a new inline filter, with a quick change. It's easier and all these smalls parts are no longer needed.

 And I would suggest you the Pn 5067-1603 for start, it comes with some frit already and after you can just buy more the frits using 5067-1610.

I just had this same problem and came across this forum post. I was unsatisfied that the only answer was to shell out $400 for a new inline filter. So I called Agilent tech support for advice. They suggested to put the stuck pieces in a sonicator. I tried that but it didn't work. I mention it here because it might work for some. 
 What did work was this: I wrapped the filter insert in a folded kimwipe and gripped it gently with pliers to hold it steady. Then my colleague wedged a razor blade between the frit ring and the filter insert, and tapped on the top of the razor blade with a screwdriver. The frit ring popped right off.
