What onboard library packages are available?
There are three available library packages:
1. Standard (~600 chemicals): The Standard Resolve package has a library that contains explosives, narcotics and a small number of general chemicals. This package is suitable for applications where the user is “screening” for the threat materials above: e.g., a security check point where items are screened to check if they are a threat.
2. Toxic & Hazardous (additional ~6,000 chemicals): The Toxic and Hazardous Materials Package library contains around 6,000 hazardous and general chemicals in addition to the Standard Package. This means that it is suitable for most Hazmat applications and other applications where the user is trying to identify an unknown substance.
3. Comprehensive (additional ~6,000 chemicals): The Comprehensive library adds approximately another 6,000 items to the Toxic and Hazardous package. These are a mixture of natural products, synthetic chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. It should be deployed where the user is seeking to identify the widest possible range of materials.
Library updates are available every 6 months for customers under a software service agreement.
Can I create my own libraries?
Yes, each Resolve system has 4 onboard User libraries that scans can be saved to for matching on the go. Simply scan your item, select which library you would like the new library item added to, and give it a name. Next time you scan a sample, your Resolve will include your new library item for matching.
Additionally, the Command Fleet Management standalone software can be used to create Resolve libraries on a computer or laptop. Command allows advanced users who have collected data from one or more Resolve systems to create new averaged library items, include metadata to be displayed in Resolve, group library items into libraries and deploy these libraries to any Resolve in their fleet.
Matches to User or Command library items on Resolve will display a custom user icon to easily show users that this is not an Agilent library match.
Can the Resolve handheld Raman analyzer measure mixtures?
Yes, Resolve can report up to 3 components in a sample. The detection limits in low concentration mixtures are dependent on several factors. Chief among these is the strength of the Raman signal from each of the components in the sample. In general, concentrations of ~10% can be detected, although for very strong Raman scatterers this can be much lower.
The Raman spectrum from a material will contain Raman information about all of the molecules which are within the analysis volume of the system. The library match spectrum shown is a combination of the components identified in the mixture.
What is Reachback?
The Resolve Reachback service offers expert spectroscopic analysis of Resolve system scans and helps users with any result queries. Our Raman experts can help analyze a scan, or set of scans, where your Resolve system provides inconclusive results. This can be helpful if your system has:
- not provided a match, despite providing a good quality spectrum
- matched to something you have reason to believe is incorrect
- given different results for more than one scan of the same substance under the same conditions
Users under warranty or a service agreement can upload scans at Resolve Reachback, email reachback@agilent.com or send a Reachback request directly from a Resolve connected to WiFi.
