Swagelok vs. Agilent Quick Connect (pn 5067-5958) Can Swagelok connections be connected/disconnected repeatedly?

Using Swagelok to connect to columns on a multiuser instrument where the columns are changed 5+ times/day. Over time it seems like the connection loosens and the interface between the column and the ferrule starts leaking. Is this normal? Will an Agilent Quick connect fitting solve the issue? Is there another option?

  • Hi,

LC fittings are not made for these types of changes, multiple times a day. An Agilent Quick Connect fitting will make that a little better if used correctly. You have to check the thread of the columns as those are normally damaged when fittings are changed often.

Perhaps using a multi-stream selector valve, where the 5 (up to 10) columns are in the system all the time and the user just selects the column position electronically would be something to think about.
