This Information Applies To: Agilent OpenLab CDS ver. 2.4 or earlier.
Issue:
If the PC name on a system with OpenLab 2.4 or earlier revisions needs to be changed post installation of the software. This must be done in the right way or the instrument controller will give out an error and the instrument connection will not launch.
Steps to follow
Close all your instrument clients (Data Acquisition & Data Analysis)
In OpenLab Control Panel, close all connections
Go into services and stop all Agilent-related processes, see How to restart Agilent OpenLab Services in Windows 10

Change the PC host name
Reboot the PC
Skip to step 7 if you are not using Workstation Plus; otherwise, Run DataStoreConfigurationFinalizer as administrator from the Configuration folder as shown in Figure 1. Enter the new PC host name.
Select the Windows Start button, and then scroll through the alphabetical list on the left. Under Agilent Technologies, right click OpenLab Configuration, click Run as administrator to run RegisterCDS.exe (Figure 2). Enter the New PC host name and follow the instructions on screen.
Reboot the PC
Launch the OpenLab Control Panel and confirm that there is a second instrument controller in the list. (Figure 3)
Edit all your instruments to select the instrument controller (the new host name) from the drop-down list.
Delete the old instrument controller from OpenLab Control Panel: Administration > Instrument Controllers
