What is the advantage of GC-MS over GC-FTIR

Question

I'm in a printing ink industry. We use to analyse resin system and solvent system using GC-FTIR. We use GC to detect solvent composition and FTIR to find Resin composition and then we use to calculate the percentage of the resin from the FTIR graph. If we use GC-MS then how it will be benefitted for us?

HI, 
 a MS gives you molecular masses of compounds and their fragments, a FTIR gives you the functional groups of a component or fragment and can be used for undestroyed resins directly. GC needs its components smaller than 1000 (500) Daltons, therefore I assume you use a pyrolizer prior to injection. The GC/MS than gives you the masses of the fragments in the pyrolized mix, a fingerprint of the resin.
