How to set lowest flow possible on GC to convserve Helium

Due to the global Helium shortage, I want to set our labs GC-MS's to as low of a flow as possible when they are not being used. I noticed the flow can only be set as low as ~ 0.5 mL/min to achieve a 1 psi pressure in most of the typical column lengths.

Is there any best practice to keep the flows as low as possible while at the same time maintaining a vacuum on the MS?

I figured I can change the configuration column settings to a smaller column dimensions, therefore "tricking" the GC into thinking a smaller column is installed, which allows me to set a lower flow rate - but will this actually consume less Helium?
