what is the maximum length for gpib cabling to a gc?
The recommendation is to use shorter cables that are two meters long or less. Lengths of 0.5 Meter, 1 Meter, and 2 Meters are still used today.
Following up on your question -- There are cables as long as 8m, but lengths beyond 2 meters can suffer from performance or reliability issues.
Thanks for the response. We wanted to make sure before pulling cables.
Another rule that we used years ago was that the cable length should only be three feet per device. In practice the cables were much longer and worked at longer distance. If you had a GC with an ALS, then 6 feet to the PC, add a MSD then 9 feet. It was a rule of thumb that HP used in earlier GPIB manuals. Longer cables were always available and seemed to work well in most situations.
I went ahead and flagged the “Correct Answer” on this post. If you still need help though, please let us know and we would be happy to continue working with you.
