Can a column be installed (and used) crosswise, from the back injector (SSL) to the front detector (FID)?
Yes it can. In software you can define that where each column is connected and then instrument controls it properly. Below you'll find example screenshot taken from MassHunter; configuration is similar as in OpenLab CDS.
Thank-you, Tomi, for your help. Some of our analysts are currently testing like this but most had never heard that this was an acceptable practice, as the OQ has not been performed in this manner.
Have a wonderful day

I'm not sure that it matters, but could you please tell us the model number for your GC and the version of software you're using?
Thanks. - Josh
We are using both 6890s & 7890s with OpenLab
Whan you perform OQ on the unit make sure that all channels are qualified. For example if you have two inlets and one detector you need to perform OQ on Front Inlet -> Front Detector and Back Inlet -> Front Detector.
Have a good weekend,
